Courses: The Babcock Institute organizes short courses on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, in Wisconsin conference facilities, and in other countries across the globe. These courses include lectures, workshops, and farm visits. They are tailored to the specific needs of course participants, covering the technical aspects of dairy production, dairy processing, and farm management. Lectures are usually presented in English by UW faculty and translated by native speakers with training in dairy science. Written educational materials and presentations are provided in the language of the participants.
Since 1996, the Babcock Institute has developed 129 Dairy Short Courses for more than 5,612 participants from 71 countries, including Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Georgia, Germany, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Iran, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Latvia, Macedonia, Mali, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Trinidad, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
Seminars: Babcock Institute seminars – such as the Sino-US Dairy Research Center Seminars – are typically for large audiences and do not include a hands-on component.
Trade Shows: The Institute also participates in farm shows in Wisconsin and in foreign sites. These events allow the Institute to keep in touch with local dairy producers and researchers.
Conferences: The Babcock Institute sponsors conferences that foster dialogue and allow international experts to exchange ideas with their U.S. counterparts on issues of common interest. Meetings: International visitors to Wisconsin meet with representatives of the Babcock Institute to learn about the Institute, the University of Wisconsin, the UW System, the UW Extension, Wisconsin state government offices, and other subjects of interest.
Internships: The Babcock Institute helps to create working and learning opportunitites for local students and for students from around the world.
